The player's chosen monster, or Monstie, fights alongside them in combat and can do attacks alongside the player. There's also a pretty strong emphasis on co-op during the combat, though it's not always with other players. When this happens, they'll drop a unique monster part that can be used to craft weapons and armor. Much like in the main Monster Hunter series, certain monsters can be knocked down. That isn't to say there aren't any familiar elements in the combat that those familiar within the main series.
